About a year ago, I wrote an article about the AV industry’s struggle to train its workforce. Since then, not much has changed. We still lack a structured approach to attracting and developing new talent, and companies continue to struggle with creating scalable, hands-on onboarding processes. Education remains one of our greatest challenges.

That’s what led me deeper into this topic. I began researching best practices around the world and had the opportunity to speak with companies across five continents. What I found was striking: the challenges are nearly universal. Regardless of the market vertical or region, the complaints are the same.

The AV industry is growing faster than its talent pool. This creates a dangerous gap — a demand shock where the need for skilled professionals exceeds the supply, driving salaries higher, especially in technical roles.

At the same time, global and local initiatives are popping up, offering online and in-person courses. But most of them target intermediate or advanced levels, which only widens the gap. It leaves newcomers — or professionals from non-technical areas like marketing, logistics, purchasing, or sales — struggling to keep up.

Whenever I bring this up, I often hear: “Let it go. Do we really need to worry about this?”

My answer is: yes, we absolutely do. And I decided to take on this problem myself.

This 10-part article series is my attempt to explore how we can tackle this issue and build scalable solutions that can be applied worldwide.

Here are the topics we’ll cover:

  1. Why the AV Industry Still Hasn’t Solved Its Education Problem

  2. How to Turn Technicians into Future AV Leaders

  3. What Companies Gain by Outsourcing Onboarding and Training

  4. The “Knowledge Series” Model: Fast, Accessible, and Ongoing Learning

  5. Diversity and Inclusion in AV: Why We Start from the Ground Up

  6. Technical Training Isn’t Enough: The Role of Application in AV Learning

  7. How to Train AV Talent in Logistics, Marketing, and Support

  8. The Talent Marketplace: Connecting Knowledge to Opportunity

  9. Why the AV Industry Needs Its Own “Professional YouTube”

  10. Education as a Driver of Sustainability in the AV Industry

By the end of this journey, I hope you’ll be convinced that not only can we take on this challenge — but we must. And the solution may be closer than you think.
