I currently serve as President of the Avixa Foundation, the non-profit arm of Avixa focused on acquiring, developing and maintaining workforces for our industry. I must say that your challenge is shared worldwide, on different scales, companies from all over the world have been trying to find a solution. Furthermore, we have seen research indicating the growth of the AV market, however this will only be possible if we address the problem of training new people.
Through the Avixa foundation, we sought to understand the challenges of each region, seeking to indicate good practices or a path forward. From our observations and interviews around the world, we realized that the AV company has become the “AV university”. New employees, whether young or experienced, coming from parallel industries, need to learn within the company. This creates a huge challenge, as schedules, commitments and cultures imply different speeds and qualities of learning. I'm glad to see how you solved your challenge, but as you realized, it's not enough to solve the market gap. Unfortunately I don't have the exact answer, but we can help you.
The Avixa Foundation is developing a Apprentice program (a pathway), summarizing the best global practices, seeking to create some scale of training at a global level, helping companies in the market to replicate this design and train more people. It's a start, but we still need to advance further in this challenge. I will be present at IC24 in Vegas, and if you are present, I would like to meet you and talk more about these challenges. Keep up the excellent work, together we will get there.
Patrik,
Nice spending quality time together at ISE 2024. It was a pleasure hearing your story and reading this discussion. As @Cristiano Mazza, CTS notes, we've got some resources to help you take the leap. And @AVIXA continues to build our partnerships around the world to help feed the pipeline. You're not alone either. Just ask @Craig Underwood@George Chacko Rich Miller @Chris Fitzpatrick@Rich Sasson@Sean Glumace@Norbert Kreuzer they can also tag others
By far my favorite is Vince Guaraldi's 'Charlie Brown Christmas' album. Parents played it every snowy Christmas morning as we sipped our hot cocoa and opened gifts at home. Now it is a staple in my holiday soundtrack. Always warms my heart to hear it.
Adding to my adoration, the soundtrack has legend attached. Apparently, producer Lee Mendelson was creating a documentary about Peanuts cartoonist Charles M. Shulz when he heard a song on the radio that really moved him. He immediately called up a local jazz critic who by happenstance was having lunch with Guaraldi the very next day. The two were introduced and the rest is history!
Great topic, two industries highly intriguing and intertwining via dependencies! That being noted, have always found it very interesting that aerospace/space/rocket company career sites often portray aerospace jobs (which are sometimes highly comprised of AV aspects some as much as 80% of a job posting description) as aerospace engineering or satellite duties (without ever mentioning the duties as AV)? It appears recruiters in the defense/aerospace industry are not aware of of the overlap and similarities that intertwine with AV design and engineering. Is anything being done by AVIXA to reach out to educate these aerospace HR/People departments on the overlap with AV talent and the possibility of mentioning to have AV candidates apply to open positions, or add their postings into AV career sites requesting AV candidates apply to bring them into the aerospace sector? Bet the aerospace/sat folks would be pleasantly surprised at some of the results they may find.
@Russel Brow great insight. Thanks. I'm one of many at AVIXA helping to make these connections open wider for our industry employers. While we don't have this actioned, per se, can you make some recommendations for known entities recruiting in this space we could start a dialogue?

Awesome resource @Rich Sasson thanks for sharing. Something we can definitely start promoting in the coming year alongside our industry AV career tips and toolset.
@Kylie Kendrick curious does the UK have any specific resourcing supported by the govt like they do with apprentice schemes?
Tagging in @Joe Way as he had lots of oversight with University So Cal (USC) 'Digital Creative Lab' facility implementation and commissioning in his previous role. Joe, what resources did your team utilize to implement that state-of-the-art space?
