We all know that people have varying communication styles and preferences, but have you adapted your interview process to account for this? In this recent article posted on the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) website, introverts specifically may be passed over more frequently for jobs even if they possess all the requisite skills.  There are some strategies described in this article that can help your hiring team be more objective in screening for true job qualifications rather than gravitating to a candidate with a more bubbly personality and a natural ease in answering interview questions.  In addition to thoughtful preparation of interview questions, the format of the meetings is also important.  Introverts may do better with separate conversations on different days or times as natural breaks to re-energize, as opposed to a large panel interview or back-to-back meetings.  Additionally, you may also consider work assessments or testing that can be completed asyncronously to truly portray quality and skills, and not just reward those who can perform better under pressure.  Introverts can be your greatest and hardest-working employees if given a chance to shine with the first impression!
