Green signage, generative AI and cybersecurity: this trio will shape the industry in 2023/2024.

In their traditional opening Keynote, invidis.de partners Florian Rotberg and Stefan Schicker highlighted these latest trends:

Megatrend 1: Generative AI

It has been hard to get around the AI hype in recent months. But as many experts have already put it: A huge transformation of numerous markets is emerging under the superhero-from-self images and chatGPT-told-by-me stories. Retail, for example, is massively driven by AI - or already is when it comes to the big players. For example, 47 per cent of all customer enquiries on the Ikea website are already handled by a chatbot.

But huge changes are also on the horizon for content creation and distribution. Adobe Firefly is leading the way; repetitive tasks in content and graphic design are increasingly being taken over by AI.

The big corporations are also solving the problem of copyrights and bad data sources: more and more are building their own private generative AI. This gives them control over the data that is processed and trained with.

Megatrend 2: Green Signage

invidis has been pointing out the importance of the topic for years, and now the pressure has increased even more. In the meantime, no company can avoid a consistent sustainability strategy.

Public opinion and regulatory measures go hand in hand. From 2025, for example, more than 50,000 companies in the EU will have to prepare an annual corporate sustainability report. This will also affect large digital signage integrators in Europe.

Reducing CO2 emissions is becoming increasingly important - especially because CO2 offsetting is becoming more and more expensive. Studies assume that the price of certificates will increase twentyfold.

It is therefore important that the digital signage industry is prepared for this - and can support its customers in the transformation.

Megatrend 3: Cybersecurity

In an increasingly networked world, more gateways are opening up for cyber criminals and malware of all kinds. This also applies to digital signage networks - especially since the former silos are increasingly being broken down for modern signage structures. Reports show that a big factor in corporate cyber vulnerability is the use of third-party software - and digital signage falls into this category.

Large companies have already changed digital signage integrators because the necessary certificates were not available.

So it's also about working with modern software structures that are designed for secure use, for example in the cloud.

New trends result in new projects:

For the following weeks and month, Florian and Stefan announced more food for thought and decision making.

  • The print editions of the invidis yearbook has been distributed during the event, online versions of the German and the English edition will be available in the next weeks. We'll keep you posted!
  • They also announced a new online tool Digital Signage-Software Compass, available in Fall and
  • An additional yearbook Green Signage 101, also scheduled for Fall 2023.

Digital Signage Summit ISE is scheduled for January 31 in Barcelona, tickets will be available in Fall, AVIXA members are - again - eligible for a discount.
