After reflecting on the past year a few weeks ago, one thing quickly became clear: 2024 was a year of change in the AV industry. New technologies continued to gain traction, and emerging trends and concepts became more established.
COB picked up speed, AV over IP became an increasingly important term, drones solidified their place as a video technology, and the first practical applications of AI appeared – no one can claim that the AV world is at a standstill.
But how will this momentum carry forward into 2025? Where will we as an industry continue to develop? What challenges will we face as LANG AG and as a global sector in the next twelve months?
Of course, we haven’t yet invented a crystal ball to answer these questions in detail. However, we did the next best thing: we asked our experts and professionals at LANG AG for their predictions and insights – the perfect way to find out what to watch for in 2025.
For one, it is clear that AV over IP is on an unstoppable path to becoming the go-to standard for signal transmission:
I see AV over IP continuing to gain momentum. Even in the event sector, more and more companies are adopting modern connectivity.
– Tobias Lang, CEO
Technologies like SMPTE ST 2110 offer us a chance to differentiate ourselves through expertise and competent consulting.
– Pablo Ledda, Director International Sales
IPMX remains an exciting technology that has yet to realize its full potential. We’re curious to see if 2025 will bring the breakthrough moment and whether the standards will leave a lasting impact on the market.
– Hubertus Beckmann, Technical Director
With the LEDgend, LANG AG added its first COB product to its LED portfolio. But this is just the beginning:
COB technology will continue to play a central role in 2025 and will keep growing. We will keep researching and developing it further to enable innovative new applications.
– Svenja Mevissen, Director LED & Displays
For more than five years, 2.x millimeter has been the standard pixel pitch in the rental market. In 2025, I expect a shift. COB and MIP are putting significant pressure on traditional SMD technology. However, the latter is still very expensive. This is a classic chicken-and-egg problem that will likely only be resolved through the consumer TV market in about 36 months.
– Tobias Lang
It’s not just COB that will shape the market, though – other technologies and products will also shine in 2025:
I’m still looking forward to the new possibilities and installations with Muxwave, as the product is still unique, and customers love its flexible applications.
– Nishaanth Balachandran, Head of Sales Integration
Topics like COG (Chip on Glass) and active matrix will continue to merge the LED and display markets, especially in areas such as transparency and creative, flexible solutions.
– Svenja Mevissen
E-Ink is a fascinating topic, particularly in the context of Green AV. It will be interesting to see how this technology evolves given its unique requirements.
– Hubertus Beckmann
The challenges and opportunities that 2025 brings are, of course, not just local but also extend internationally. LANG AG is preparing accordingly:
For 2025, we plan to travel more with our now five-person International Sales team, conquering new parts of the world. Some things are happening internationally without us, but we aim to position ourselves as a global partner by developing solutions and building a stronger international presence.
– Pablo Ledda
And how does large-scale exchange within the AV industry happen? Through trade fairs, of course. Anticipation is high:
Next year, we’re looking forward to what promises to be a record-breaking ISE. The event is now on the verge of capturing broader public attention. It’s exciting to think about the potential consequences.
– Tobias Lang
Speaking of trade shows: 2025 will see the AV world connecting in regions that haven’t yet received much attention:
Alongside ISE in Barcelona and InfoComm in the USA, there are major opportunities in emerging markets like India, where InfoComm will take place again in the fall. These regions offer exciting growth potential that we are eager to explore.
– Pablo Ledda
I’m glad there will once again be an InfoComm in Latin America next year. I’ll try to attend the premiere in Mexico in the fall.
