I loved exploring the tech throughout InfoComm’s massive halls and listening to the great sessions hosted at the Xchange Live and AVIXA TV booths. Still, like many others, the standout for me was connecting, and reconnecting, with the people that make up this Pro AV industry.

As a remote worker (which I love being), I spend much of my day on video calls with my colleagues and AVIXA members. While we’re wildly productive on our calls, there’s much to be said about building relationships through casual chats over a shared meal or an in-person team meeting.

Equally as important for me as connecting face-to-face with colleagues, is connecting with others in the industry and with the technology itself! Trade shows are ideal for gathering hybrid teams, including those outside of traditional sales or technical roles. Meetings can be coordinated on or off the show floor while creating opportunities for staff to attend on-site training and panel discussions, establish a network of industry peers, meet manufacturer representatives, and experience inspiring AV technologies.

Centering an annual meeting around a show efficiently utilizes resources as it capitalizes on travel budgets and time. It’s an investment that requires consideration and planning but offers invaluable opportunities for learning, hands-on experiences, networking, inspiration, and strengthening team dynamics while showcasing the company brand.

I know how incredibly beneficial attending InfoComm has been in each of my roles throughout my career. The most memorable and meaningful experiences were those that kicked off with a team meeting and kept us connected throughout the show. Here are a few benefits that come to mind:

  1. Learning and Professional Development: InfoComm offers extensive educational courses, training sessions, and insightful panel discussions, enabling hybrid teams to stay informed of the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in the AV and IT industries.
  2. Hands-On Experience: The exhibition floor at InfoComm showcases the latest AV products and technologies. All staff members can experience innovative solutions firsthand. For many, this is a once-a-year opportunity!
  3. Networking Opportunities: Staff can network with industry professionals, experts, and peers which can lead to valuable partnerships, knowledge sharing, and potential business opportunities. Think about the value to marketing professionals, buyers, and more.
  4. Inspiration and Innovation: Experiencing cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions can inspire hybrid teams to think creatively and strategically about their projects. And the entire team can benefit from keynotes and industry leaders offering valuable insights and inspiration.
  5. Problem-Solving: Team members can address specific challenges by consulting with experts and attending targeted sessions at the show, leading to practical solutions that improve team efficiency and project outcomes.
  6. Strengthening Team Dynamics: Meeting in person, especially for hybrid teams that may work remotely or across different locations, can strengthen team relationships and improve communication. InfoComm provides an ideal setting for team building while creating a deep connection to the industry and motivating each member of the team.
  7. Brand Recognition: A unified, strong presence at a trade show enhances the company’s professional image and showcases its commitment to the industry. Not only does this influence industry partners, but it impacts employee recruitment and retention.
  8. Professional Recognition: Participating in a prominent industry event like InfoComm can enhance the professional reputation of team members and the organization as a whole. It demonstrates a commitment to staying at the forefront of industry developments and instills a sense of pride and belonging.

Overall, leveraging all the show has to offer across the broader organization can significantly contribute to the success and cohesion of hybrid (and non-hybrid) teams in this rapidly evolving world of AV/IT. And Orlando, teeming with meeting spaces to accommodate groups of all sizes and requirements, is a perfect opportunity. I hope hosting an annual company meeting around the show is part of your 2025 plan!

What does attending InfoComm mean to you and how does it benefit you in your role? Has your team coordinated meetings & meals around the show? I'd love to hear of your experiences and suggestions!
