With Christmas just a couple days away, I asked some friends in AV and colleagues at AVIXA to weigh in on some of their favorite AV holiday gifts over the years. From video game systems and monitors to audio players and software, here were some of their favorites.
And if this makes you extra nostalgic, share your favorite gifts in the comments below!
Happy Holidays from the AVIXA Editorial team
Fisher-Price Classics Play Tape Recorder
"I think I was around three when I got it, and I first used it to sing for my family on holidays. Then when I got older, I used it to tape songs off the radio. And when I got even older, I used it to listen to my mom's Dirty Dancing cassette and make my own dance routines." 💃
4K OLED Monitor
"I really appreciated being able to look at oil paintings and see them as if I was seeing them in person opposed to seeing them through the low resolution, low contrast screen. It gave me a much higher appreciation for the artwork. The experience was like going from looking at digital reproductions of the paintings to standing in front of the original."
Small Bluetooth Speaker
"It was a good speaker to use at parties -- one specifically with good bass!"
FL Studio Audio Software
"When I was in high school, I got a copy of FL Studio Fruity Edition for Christmas. I've always loved making music in one way or another, but that software truly is the gift that keeps on giving. I think it's one of the most powerful and user friendly digital audio workstations out there. It's been several years since I got it, but the lifetime free updates have given me so much more to work with, like new virtual instruments, effects, and samples. I highly recommend to any aspiring creatives out there." ![]()
A Portable DVD Player
"...which I still have." 📀
Sega Genesis
"...early 90's with Sonic the Hedgehog and Bill Walsh college football." 😆

I love this nostalgic AV throwback
wishing you and the entire team and advocates a joyful holiday season
Thanks @Mohannad Mousa, CTS same to you!
This post really resonates. As a kid, Nintendo and Sega were among my most memorable holiday gifts.
Those early gaming experiences definitely played a role in building my interest in technology and AV.
Thanks for sharing !
