When creating AV space solutions, either for expansion or improvement, getting involved from an audiovisual perspective at the beginning of the design process is key to an end design’s overall success. Harnessing a commitment to enhanced educational opportunities, the “Fundacion Universitaria del Area Andina (Areadina)” in Colombia, South America, decided to integrate AV solution design into its teaching and learning process – giving students the opportunity for hands-on learning.

Recognizing that rapid technological innovation requires that knowledge, proper use and adoption of new technologies advance at the same pace, the University decided to train themselves in tools that allow for quick adaptation to change while taking advantage of technology in an optimal way. To achieve this optimization, the university standardized its AV solution design projects.

In collaboration with the university’s strategic planning area, students/teams under the National Deputy Director of IT Innovation (an AV design and solutions expert), developed an “Audiovisual Solutions Design Manual”, based on both NTC4595 and AVIXA standards.

The process allows students to work closely with stakeholders to review each project request and assess the AV technology space requirements.

A matrix of the AVIXA and NTC4595 standards allows for evaluation of each design (based on a thorough site inspection) against applicable audiovisual topics. Strategies for improvement and compliance with the standards are then developed. Space requirements are reflected in a connection diagram, a plan drawn up, and a comprehensive design of the audiovisual solution is made. The resulting design and rendering are then carried out for final approval.

Contractual requirements for the completed space specify that the final integrator must be an audiovisual solutions expert who works in compliance with the latest applicable AVIXA standards and educational course offerings.

Through this standardization and hands-on learning process, the institution seeks to optimize the use and continuous management of its technological resources and acquisitions, thereby generating significant economic savings for the institution.
