Music is the universal language and one thing I've experienced as an #AVTweeps, is that it is truly a strong thread woven into this tapestry of pro AV.  Whether it's the technical correlation of music and math or the profound appreciation of live sound, acoustic or amplified, music seems to be in our DNA.

As I was putting up my tree and wrapping gifts this week singing along with my holiday favorites, I thought back to years of AV company holiday parties and how each involved live performances by my colleagues. They would bring their guitars and keyboards, their DJ gear, their voices, and share their musical gifts. We were treated to every genre imaginable. I was often blown away by their talent.

I can only imagine the gifted artists within this global community and the variety of music we enjoy at this time of year. I invite you to introduce us to your band or to share a newly discovered artist or old-time favorite. Share your videos, soundtracks, or favorite playlists and let's create the ultimate AV community playlist!

Tag your musical and music-loving colleagues!

@Joseph Valerio, what tops your list to spin?  @Joey Davis, I know you appreciate the good stuff - top picks?!  @Leon Prather, CTS - AVIXA, we've seen those guitars in your background...

Ok, I know you all aren't shy...I'll get us kicked off...

This year, I've been enjoying Brett Eldredge. He's a country artist but quite the contemporary crooner when it comes to his Christmas playlist. And I've always loved Garth Brook's "The Gift" (Maria's song) but, alas, he's not on Spotify and I lost the CD two moves ago.

But let me share my favorite Christmas tradition - my daughter, singing O Holy Night. Forgive my living room acoustics as she agreed to let us record her this past weekend while I kept her 3-year-old busy downstairs! Lauren grew up with an audiophile for a father, @Gary Matthews, and me, who adapted to being part of the stage crew (and proud stage Mom). One of her favorite Christmas gifts was an autographed Sarah McLachlan microphone, if that tells you anything!

Lauren's O Holy Night

I hope you enjoy it. Please share your favorite artist, song, or original performance with us!

Thanks for sharing @Lisa Matthews, CTS - AVIXA. Lauren is amazing! Please convey her my compliments for a beautiful rendition. I enjoyed listening to her. Warm wishes for the season and happy holidays to you and yours!

Thanks, @Monisha Devaiah, I'm so glad you enjoyed it and will certainly pass along your kind words. Wishing you a beautiful holiday as well - Cheers to '24!

Alright, you called I answered ;)

I love to produce Christmas music each year and share with family, friends, and coworkers. Some of my favorites have been:

FOR FUN: "Mary Did You Know?" acapella arrangement that I wrote for a large group of teens to sing when I was a youth leader. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-oqI4D7Zo0

FOR WORK: Part 1 & 2 of the AVIXA Players' (name tbd) debut at the 2023 AVIXA Staff Holiday Party
- rehearsing Run Run Rudolph
- Full Part 2

FOR LAUGHS: Jingle Bells Rock as inspired by Alvin and the Chipmunks.

@Leon Prather, CTS - AVIXA, what a great collection! Thanks for sharing with us! @Terry O'Brien, @Gibran Nassif - AVIXA, @Coran Smith, wow, quite the performance! Seems like the start of something big...

By far my favorite is Vince Guaraldi's 'Charlie Brown Christmas' album. Parents played it every snowy Christmas morning as we sipped our hot cocoa and opened gifts at home. Now it is a staple in my holiday soundtrack. Always warms my heart to hear it.

Adding to my adoration, the soundtrack has legend attached. Apparently, producer Lee Mendelson was creating a documentary about Peanuts cartoonist Charles M. Shulz when he heard a song on the radio that really moved him. He immediately called up a local jazz critic who by happenstance was having lunch with Guaraldi the very next day. The two were introduced and the rest is history!

What a great story - I had no idea! Thanks for sharing it, @Joseph Valerio, and for the heartwarming memories. I love how music transports us.
