Gaming has become more than a fun hobby. It's a bona fide career path with great pay. Behold the power of Esports.

Just ask@Kylie Kendrick. Kylie and peers at Durham University launched a brand new collaboration with LDN UNTD and the Durham Esports Club. The partnership intends to elevate student resources, as well as level up opportunities to develop their skills, learn about industry job roles, and gain work experience. All while maintaining health and wellbeing.

Industry employers take note. Esports is another untapped resource for talent acquisition. Case in point - scholar athletes from Talladega College and Faulkner competed at InfoComm 2023.

Schools at all levels globally are harnessing millions in funding to launch their own Esports programs. There might be one in your backyard already. All it takes is a conversation and you could have a new talent acquisition pipeline on your hands.

Tag anyone else who runs an Esports program or know how employers can get involved!

Thank you for the highlight Joseph! Esports has certainly moved to the forefront of the gaming industry in recent years, but it's older than you might think! Esports leagues are ran at secondary, college and higher education establishments all around the world and it's great to see cross industry recognition being achieved!

I'd be delighted to engage with AV professionals on the merits and positives of esports, anytime :-) I also have plenty of resources and contacts within the esports industry who would be more than happy to speak to those who are interested in learning more!

Thank you! Our AV provision for this coming space is quite basic sadly owing to budgetary constrictions, but we have plans for a second space in the next couple of years so I'll download it and have a read :)

Awesome resource @Rich Sasson thanks for sharing. Something we can definitely start promoting in the coming year alongside our industry AV career tips and toolset.

@Kylie Kendrick curious does the UK have any specific resourcing supported by the govt like they do with apprentice schemes?

Tagging in @Joe Way as he had lots of oversight with University So Cal (USC) 'Digital Creative Lab' facility implementation and commissioning in his previous role. Joe, what resources did your team utilize to implement that state-of-the-art space?

@Joseph Valerio Afraid not - There are no esports resources that are supported by the government in the UK. We have to fund our own initiatives. British Esports are doing great work within Secondary Schools and Colleges to promote esports and create spaces for teens to play together in leagues, but this is purely reliant on their own funding processes. This is in the form of a BTEC, supported by Pearson (an educational publishing service) but there is no official recognised support from our government at the moment.

That being said, it does speak favorably of esports and video games created in the UK get a 20% tax break.
