As a recruiter, it is true that I first review a candidate's resume to see if they meet the minimum qualifications for the job. However, I am also pleased to see when a candidate has taken the extra time and effort to include a personalized cover letter, highlighting their interest in the particular position/organization and adding a bit more color to their profile. Fast Company published a helpful checklist for writing the "ultimate cover letter" and helping your application to stand out.
