Spain has unveiled the world's first interactive 3D hologram

Researchers at the University of Navarra in Spain have developed a 3D hologram that floats in the air and is easily controlled by hand movements. Led by Elodie Buzbib, the team created true 3D graphics that you can interact with without needing VR glasses. This technology allows users to approach and manipulate the floating images naturally, similar to how we interact with smartphones.

Funded by the European Research Council, this project is part of the InteVol initiative. It projects images onto a rapidly moving, elastic diffuser surface to create the illusion of a solid, floating 3D object. Unlike harder conventional diffusers, these materials allow safe interaction. The innovation enables us to touch and move 3D holograms naturally, showcasing a significant leap in holographic technology.

This breakthrough exemplifies how advanced AV technologies are transforming the way we interact with digital content. By enabling direct, intuitive manipulation of 3D images, this development opens new possibilities for immersive experiences in fields ranging from education to entertainment, setting new standards for interactive displays.
