Ideal Systems provided design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of a state of the art NDI Video Production and Streaming System for Singapore Polytechnic. The system will be utilised by Singapore Polytechnic students in their Diploma in Integrated Events and Project Management (DEPM) program as part of the module that focuses on live and hybrid events.
Singapore Polytechnic, established in 1954, is the first and oldest polytechnic in Singapore, renowned for its engineering programs. The DEPM program trains students in real-life projects, with opportunities to create, plan, and execute live events in collaboration with their industry partners. With the new system, students will have hands-on experience in the NDI Video Production Studio, working with the latest advanced technology in collaborative projects. The system is also used for Singapore Polytechnic events.
The brain of the system is the Vizrt TriCaster 2 Elite, which serves as an IP-based live production system that merges live video switching, broadcast graphics, virtual sets, special effects, audio mixing, recording, social media publishing and web streaming. It automatically detects video formats and resolutions up to 4KP60. It supports Skype™, MS Teams™, Zoom Meetings™, Slack, and multipal IP video sources, primarily NDI® as well as SRT, RTMP, RTP, HTTP, SRC, and smartphones, along legacy SDI sources.
Other key elements of the system include Panasonic professional camcorders allowing HD/UHD resolution, Birddog PTZ cameras for NDI low latency streaming and remote control, user-friendly Yamaha mixers with Dante audio networking, Sennheiser wireless microphone systems to capture audio in dynamic environments without interference, NDI enabled NETGEAR Network Switches for reliable and fast data transfer for multiple video sources, PERLE SRT 4G/5G wireless routers for secure data transmission, and AJA Bridge for SRT-NDI gateway integration. The system is complemented by a comprehensive LED lighting fixture with adjustable colour temperature and a sound system with multi-channel audio processing capabilities.
The project faced challenges, such as echoing in the room. Ideal Systems team addressed this by installing acoustic panels, doors and fire-rated acoustic curtains to eliminate the echo. Also project faced potential delay due to network bandwidth issues with the telco provider when integrating the NDI system. The Ideal team collaborated with the provider to secure a dedicated line with sufficient speed.
Mr Ong, Lecturer for the Diploma in Integrated Events and Project Management at Singapore Polytechnic, explained that one of the key areas of focus is teaching students live and hybrid events, which involve on-site activities while broadcasting to viewers. That’s why Singapore Poly partnered with Ideal Systems to upgrade to the latest NDI Live Streaming standard. This upgrade allows them to stream events from up to six locations, combining them into one live stream for the viewers. The system will be used for various events, including Dinner & Dance, product launches, and symposiums.
Singapore Polytechnic has now become more flexible and adaptable in its video production workflow. In addition to in-house production, they can now conduct remote productions using the SRT with Vmix, OBS, and VizRT Tricaster Mini 4K. For in-house production, they utilise AJA Bridge Live and VizRT Tricaster Elite 2 in combination with NETGEAR POE switches.
Singapore Polytechnic celebrated its 70th birthday with Dinner & Dance at Fairmont Ballroom, welcoming over 1000 guests. During the event, the talented SP students took charge of the NDI live video production system as the backstage crew. The students expertly set up the NDI system, including left, right, middle and roving Panasonic cameras with Birddog Encoders, and skillfully operated the Vizrt TriCaster, controlling the camera switches and graphics, including lower thirds and titles, ensuring professional quality.
