This year’s theme for International Women’s Day (IWD), a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women’s rights movement, is #EmbraceEquity. According to the IWD organizers “Equity isn’t just a nice-to-have, it’s a must-have. A focus on gender equity needs to be part of every society’s DNA, and it’s critical to understand the difference between equity and equality.”
The WAVIT session, which takes place at 3:30 p.m. ET, will focus on the #EmbraceEquity theme. The panel—led by LAVNCH [CODE] editor-in-chief and WAVIT co-founder Megan A. Dutta—will feature Brandy Alvarado-Miranda, WAVIT co-founder and CEO of BAM! Marketing & PR Agency, and Althea Ricketts, WAVIT board member and vice president of corporate initiatives at Shure.
“Embracing equity is a no brainer for me. Meaning, to live in the world we live in today, it’s a necessity to living our best life,” said Ricketts. “We are no longer in a place where one size fits all. We see that in every aspect of how we live—our transportation needs, our housing needs, our work life. If we don’t embrace to need to address, and sometimes accommodate, our wealth of differences, we will constantly be fighting against what is organically happening in this world. The reality is that its okay to be different, and being different can add so much value in this every changing world we live in.”
