1. What’s your current role and how did you start working in the AV industry?
I currently work in presales, sales, and marketing within the AV industry. I entered this field in 2024, continuing a legacy as a second-generation professional in our family-run AV business. Being surrounded by AV from a young age naturally sparked my interest, and stepping into the industry professionally has been both exciting and fulfilling.
2. What inspired you to pursue the CTS certification and how did it align with your career goals?
Pursuing the CTS certification was a decision rooted in the desire to enhance my knowledge, build credibility, and offer clients the most effective and well-informed AV solutions. I wanted a globally recognized credential that would not only validate my skills but also ensure I was aligned with industry best practices and emerging technologies.
3. In what ways has the CTS certification helped you in your current role or in your professional journey overall?
CTS has significantly boosted my confidence in both client-facing interactions and technical discussions. It has strengthened client trust, deepened my understanding of AV systems, and equipped me with the tools to make more informed decisions across projects. It’s helped me approach every solution with greater clarity and structure.
4. Can you provide an example of a project where your CTS knowledge directly contributed to its success?
While it’s hard to single out one project, I’ve found that CTS knowledge plays a role in nearly every project I’m part of — whether it's ensuring proper needs analysis, system design integrity, or understanding signal flow and integration standards. It's the foundation that supports every solution I propose or pitch.
5. What role do you believe CTS-certified professionals play in advancing industry standards and best practices?
CTS-certified professionals uphold and advocate for consistency, safety, and quality across AV projects. They serve as ambassadors of industry standards, ensuring that solutions are not just technically sound, but also aligned with client needs and ethical practices. Their presence helps elevate the professionalism and reliability of the AV industry as a whole.
6. Are you considering pursuing further certifications, such as CTS-D or CTS-I?
Yes, I am considering pursuing the CTS-D in the near future. As I continue to grow in design-oriented roles, I believe this specialization would add immense value to my technical capabilities and allow me to contribute more effectively to complex system integrations.
7. What advice would you give to someone contemplating the CTS certification today?
Don’t give up — it might seem overwhelming at first, but consistency is key. Break down the syllabus into manageable parts, use a mix of study methods, and stay connected with others in the AV community. The knowledge and recognition you gain make the journey completely worth it.
My own advice? Think of the CTS not just as a test but as a mindset. It encourages you to think holistically — about people, processes, and performance. Even if you’re new to the industry, the certification gives you a structured path to grow confidently and credibly.
