For our May ‘25 Xchange Community Spotlight, we're featuring AV/IT Specialist, @Benedict Onodu. CTS.MBCS.

His journey into the ProAV world began in the early 2000’s, when he rented projectors out to hotels and event spaces. During that time, he quickly became fascinated by the novelty of AV technology.

“What captivated me was the mesmerizing science behind projection—how the Red, Green, and Blue additive colors from tiny pixels can create stunning visual representations,” Benedict said.

After this initial spark, he went on to earn professional certifications such as AVIXA’s CTS, CompTIA Security+, and others, which broadened his perspective—and opened the door for new opportunities, including a spot on the AVIXA Standards Steering Committee.

“These certifications have positioned me to champion the integration of essential best practices and standards in the ProAV industry, contributing to its continued progress,” he said. “Furthermore, being invited to serve on the AVIXA Standards Steering Committee has been a remarkable opportunity to help shape ProAV standards, particularly as an Information Security Subject Matter Expert.” 

He currently works for Experian as an AV/IT Specialist within Experian's Colleagues Technology Engineering team. During his day-to-day, he oversees the secure deployment, management, and support of video conferencing, audiovisual systems, and events across the EMEA region. In his work, he prioritizes safety at every stage and advises others to do the same, especially when it comes to the adoption of AI.

“As professionals, it is essential for us to not only recognize risks but also evaluate their impact and demonstrate our ability to assist customers in identifying and mitigating them effectively,” he stated. “It is also imperative to prioritize data protection, information security, and privacy especially with increasing AI in ProAV, ensuring that these principles are seamlessly embedded at every stage.”

Additionally, he emphasizes the critical importance of incorporating sustainable practices, highlighting the need for more environmentally responsible solutions.

“Equally important, environmental sustainability in ProAV must be actively promoted and implemented to address waste reduction, optimize energy consumption, and foster innovation and efficiency within the industry. By addressing these aspects holistically, the ProAV industry can continue to evolve responsibly while delivering impactful solutions to enterprise end users.”

On Xchange, Benedict often writes articles on AV/IT topics like mitigating AI risks and navigating Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM) compliance. As an #AVFoodie, one of his favorite aspects of Xchange is the AV on the Menu series that dives into the intersection of the culinary world and the AV industry.

“Food is a great connector and as a passionate foodie with a deep interest in the culinary world, I’m fascinated by the ‘AV on the Menu’ feature of Xchange, where technology merges with food to create captivating and visually tantalizing experiences,” Benedict said.
