AVIXA CTS-I Exam: How deep do I really need to go on networking?
Hello, I’m currently studying for the AVIXA CTS-I exam and running into a lot of networking-related stuff in the study materials such as VLANs, QoS, DHCP, OSI model, etc.
Most of my experience so far has been hands-on install work so networking is probably my weakest area. I’m comfortable installing and terminating gear but once switches and network settings come into play, I start second-guessing myself.
For those who’ve already taken the CTS-I, how deep does the exam actually go when it comes to networking? Is it more about understanding what these concepts mean in an AV environment or are they expecting configuration-level knowledge?
I’m trying to figure out whether the networking coverage in the CTS-I Exam Guide is enough or if it’s worth spending time on a separate networking course.
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who came from a mostly install-focused background and had to bridge this gap. Any advice on what to focus on would help a lot.
