After school, Pooda and I was on the couch counting fake dollar bills. She positioned herself on the arm of the chair and moaned and complained the entire time because she didn’t want to do it. I was adamant about her learning it because I tell them all the time that I won’t leave any insurance money with them when I die if they don’t know how to count money. After about 10 minutes of pulling teeth, she pretend-fell off the arm of the couch and pretend-cried her ass right to sleep…frfr. In hindsight, she was super-tired from a long day at school and she really just wanted to rest.

While she was sleep, I start texting her mom, expressing my frustrations with not being able to TEACH her how to count money. (Shout out to the educators out there who REALLY have the gift of teaching.) She replied, and these are her exact words, “I get it. It’s about exposure at this point…not mastery.” I had a super-long pregnant pause at that moment like God himself just parted the heavens and deposited a piece of this puzzle that had been missing for so long as a parent. After I came back to life I had this shock factor like, “when did you get this gem and why are you just now sharing it with me?!?” Oftentimes, our egos as men get in the way from us receiving anything outside of sex from a women. Therefore, the first thing you need if you plan on building an empire with a woman is Vulnerability. If I would have never opened myself up to admit that I couldn’t effectively accomplish this mission, how long would I have continued to frustrate myself and my daughter? Ego and pride would have texted and said, “Pooda is being too lazy to learn how to count money and she’s always whining and complaining when it’s something that she doesn’t want to do!” Although part of it may be true, the bigger issue was me not being able to effectively TEACH her how to count money. Sidebar: just because you know how to do something doesn’t automatically qualify you to TEACH it to someone. The 2nd thing you need fellas is self-awareness. This term that’s loosely tossed around these days will cause you to understand that if God can speak through a donkey in the old testament, then surely He can drop a few gems down through the woman you plan to build this empire with. With self-awareness, you’ll learn that you cannot do and be everything at all times to all people. You’ll start to learn YOUR lane and YOUR strengths and YOUR weaknesses. The things that you do best will be yours and your weaknesses will be outsourced to someone well-versed in that area. So keep this in mind the next time you’re faced with a hurdle to get over. There may be a ram in the nearby bush that will allow you to take your Superman cape off for just a second. See you in the next video.
