Stop Putting Time Limits on your Goals
Where in whatever higher power you subscribe to does it say to put a time limit on your dreams, goals and aspirations? It’s Ken from Basement to Balcony, where I believe it’s only 1 way in and 1 way out. This morning I was in the shower thinking about a conversation I had last night with a very knowledgeable brother. He asked me, “where do you want to be in 5 years?” I responded, “I hadn’t thought it out that far.” He then said, “ 3 years, 2 years?” I said, “I ain’t got nothing for you.” With this curious but concerned look on his face he said, “Why?” I said,
I don’t believe in putting a time limit on what’s coming to me for 2 reasons:
- God never told us to do so. The Bible DOES instruct us to speak those things that be not as though they were. But somehow we interpreted that to believe speak them and they’ll happen NOW. It’s good inspiration from the pulpit when you can rally a crowd with “Money cometh to me…NOW!” and name it, claim it and call it and haul it, blab it and grab it rhetoric. But when you come down off your spiritual high, I need you to apply some head down hand to the plow WORK with somma that FAITH so that you’ll see some manifestation in the days | months | years | decades to come.
- The second reason I don’t put a time limit on what’s coming to me is because it’s a beautiful recipe for a complete let down. Imagine you crossed all your T’s and dotted all your I’s for 24 whole months. You got a part time job, saved all that money. You stopped eating fast foods and cooked every night for 24 whole months. You work up early and stayed up late. You were on the GRIND! You did everything you said you would do. You did everything that was in your control…but somehow you couldn’t control what you couldn’t control. NOW, my friend, you are disappointed. Your pride is bruised. You experience public shame because it didn’t happen WHEN you said it would happen now people think you’ve dropped the ball somewhere or you’re lazy so now you gotta prove to the world that you ain’t no punk and……..Now you quit working diligently on that goal and ultimately it never happens.
Everything that I’ve ever imagined that would happen, has happened…just not in my timing. All I’m responsible for is being diligent at keeping the vision before me, talking and thinking about it regularly…and eventually I attract everything I need for that thing to happen WHILE I’M ON THE JOURNEY!
