Unprecedented Coverage and Innovations

The upcoming Olympic Games in Paris 2024 promise to deliver an unprecedented broadcast experience, with over 11,000 hours of coverage. With greater insights stemming from more data, an array of camera angles, and cutting-edge graphics, the broadcast will bring fans closer to the action than ever before. The adoption of cinematic lenses is set to enhance the viewing experience, immersing fans into the intensity and emotions of the Games.

Moreover, cloud-based technologies will streamline broadcast operations, cutting down the overall broadcast footprint and power needs for broadcasters.

Prepare to experience the Olympic Games in a way never seen before, as Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) innovates to elevate the broadcast coverage of Paris 2024, promising an exhilarating spectacle. With more extensive coverage and state-of-the-art tech, Paris is primed to transform how viewers globally experience this iconic event.

Bringing the Heart of the Action to the World

OBS, the host broadcaster responsible for producing live television, radio, and digital coverage, is set to deliver "Games of a new era" with innovations designed to transport fans straight to the heart of the competition. This aligns perfectly with Paris 2024's vision of hosting "Games Wide Open," promising the most immersive Olympic broadcast in history.

The comprehensive coverage will exceed 11,000 hours, up from 10,200 hours in Tokyo 2020, showcasing the world's top athletes and the vibrant essence of France and its capital. This will include behind-the-scenes footage, interviews with athletes and coaches, and detailed pre- and post-competition analysis, allowing fans unprecedented access to the Games across multiple platforms.

“These are Games that truly inspire and excite us, urging OBS to push the boundaries, not only in our broadcasting but also in the way we convey the stories of athletes, sports, the city, and the host country,” said Yiannis Exarchos, OBS CEO.

Cinematic Storytelling and Enhanced Performance Data

OBS will debut cinematic lenses, using cine-style cameras with a shallow depth of field to bring viewers closer to the action. These lenses will capture the athletes' raw emotions and fans' reactions with unprecedented clarity, enhancing the storytelling experience.

Additionally, OBS will leverage a mix of live data and new tech to offer fans a detailed insight into the athletes' performances. Dynamic, data-driven graphics combined with multiple angles for replays will revolutionize the viewing experience, immersing viewers deeper into their favorite sports.

This technological leap not only enriches the appreciation for the athletes' dedication but also unveils their performance intricacies through rich, meaningful data. For instance, viewers will see detailed metrics like a diver's jump height, air time, and entry speed into the water. Similarly, in tennis, spectators will gain insights into the players' rapid reactions to serves.

Enhanced Viewing Quality and Sound Experience

Paris 2024 will be broadcast in Ultra High Definition (UHD) High Dynamic Range (HDR), providing four times more detail than standard Full HD. Coupled with 5.1.4 immersive audio, this will offer viewers a three-dimensional soundscape, placing them right in the middle of the action.

Innovation Behind the Scenes

OBS will utilize Alibaba’s global cloud infrastructure to distribute live broadcast signals for the first time. The OBS Live Cloud's use enables OBS to achieve smarter, more agile, and highly efficient solutions. This technology allows broadcasters to conduct part of their operations remotely from home studios instead of on-site in Paris. Consequently, this will significantly cut down on the physical space and power requirements at the venues and the International Broadcast Centre, the main hub for broadcast operations.

The Countdown Begins

As the world counts down to the Opening Ceremony on 26 July, when the Olympic Games Paris 2024 officially commence, OBS will continue refining its production plans. The Olympics will run until 11 August, followed by the Paralympic Games from 28 August to 8 September.
