How to simplify the lives of programmers?
Vadim Chekirka, CEO of Avgator Inc., AV Programmer with expertise in HTML5 interfaces
Am I correct in understanding that the main goal of the AVgator Inc. team is to simplify the lives of programmers? You've already transformed HTML programming into a convenient and visually pleasing application...
Vadim Chekirka: So, what does the AVgator company and AV Studio do? We were pioneers in our field, one of the few who started mastering HTML5 for AV equipment integration. It's important to understand that HTML5 is all about dynamics, and all the power we want to see on any website. However, the development of HTML5 slowed down all progress in the AV sector, at least in the Crestron equipment environment, and in other areas as well. It's important to understand that most programmers in automation systems are advanced engineers, or audio or video engineers who are well-versed in hardware. Companies like Crestron, which manufacture equipment, have created an excellent tool in the form of controllers. They have created a service similar to simple Windows for creating simple applications. This allows programmers to easily describe logic using logical symbols, defining signals and reactions to them.
However, this idea was great 30-40 years ago, and today it can still be effective... But we need to move forward. It's important for us to understand that for users, the main thing is not what it is based on and how it is done, but how they interact with the end product.
The magical term HMI - "human-machine interface" - is something similar to what we do. It's also important for us how a person will interact with their home and how they will perceive it. Our task in building a "smart home" is to understand what is happening in the house and how to make it convenient and aesthetic to control it. It's important here that everything is modern and attractive, and this is the value of what the company Avgator Inc. does. And for this, HTML5 comes to the rescue!
Regarding programmers who are not frontend developers or web designers, but hardware specialists, it's important to understand: if they start delving into this world, the quality of their main work may suffer. Therefore, hiring such specialists into the team is a practice that we have already tried and abandoned.
Many do not understand what a "smart home" is, even when they try to hire user interface and user experience (UI/UX) designers who create beautiful but not always functional images. These images have nothing to do with how it will interact in practice. Therefore, it's important to provide a tool to those who know what should be and create a modern tool to implement this idea.
It's also important to understand who our competitors are. As cliché as it may sound, it's the equipment manufacturer themselves. We've taken on the bold task of creating an alternative application. Moreover, it's a paid application (we license each sold compilation), whereas the manufacturer's is free.
We've taken on this challenge because the manufacturer's approach is outdated, and they aren't keeping up with the times. I'm talking about the Crestron Construct application. Times are changing, and Construct, essentially, is the same as VTPRO, only it compiles it into HTML5. But it doesn't allow for solving brand new tasks.
Today, clients aren't willing to pay for the huge amount of time integrators spend programming these interfaces. Typically, it takes hundreds of working hours. Even the simplest project, with a ready-made base, still requires around 40 working hours. More complex projects can take 80-120-160 hours, and creating from scratch - hundreds of hours altogether.
We, on the other hand, declare that we are creating a tool that allows us to save this time. In other words, to quickly create what the client needs. And for it to work quickly and dynamically.
