Most of us don't have the political power or the resources to make the immense changes needed to save our planet, but each of us can make simple, careful, and ultimately significant changes to what we do every day, and in doing so, reduce our impact on the world.
The Milliwatts Program is a readily-achievable approach to reducing technology’s environmental impact by doing some simple things that are within everybody’s immediate reach. It offers members of the production, event, entertainment, and audiovisual technology industries some easy, low-cost ways to reduce our carbon footprint.
This is being achieved by compiling checklists of simple actions for each of us to consider as we go about our everyday work. Because the nature of our work is so varied, the program is compiling a range of checklists for specific jobs in specific industry sectors. Some examples of typical checklist items can be seen on the Milliwatts web site.
As a participant in the AV industry, you can help make the Milliwatts checklists relevant, accurate, and meaningful, by sharing your expertise and experience on how it's possible to make some easy-to-achieve changes in the way we work.
The program is currently working with the AVIXA Sustainability Task Force on a pilot program to iron out the process of building our checklists. Milli is looking for input on checklist items for:
-
-
- AV systems designers
- AV technicians and operators
-
If you're able to help with compiling or validating one of these checklists please drop a line to checklists@milliwatts.org.
Your input would involve a few email exchanges and an online meeting at a time to suit your time zone and work practices.
