Designing Library AV for Flexible Community Spaces
Introduction
A recent example is the Oran Park Library AV Integration project for Camden Council, delivered by Masters Voice Technology.
The project highlights how commercial AV technology can help a modern library support many different uses from the same environment — from film nights and community presentations through to digital workshops, children’s activities and interactive learning experiences.
More Than a Traditional Library
Oran Park Library was designed to serve a broad community role. The space needed to support public programs, family engagement, education sessions and events, while remaining easy for library staff to operate.
That meant the AV system could not be designed as a single-purpose presentation setup. It needed to be flexible, reliable and simple to use.
For council and public facilities, this is often where AV design becomes critical. A system may need to support different users, different event types and different levels of technical confidence throughout the week.
The AV Challenge
The key challenge was to deliver a professional audio visual system that could support multiple library functions while maintaining a clean architectural finish.
The system needed to assist with:
- Public presentations
- Film screenings
- Digital workshops
- Children’s programs
- Interactive learning
- Clear audio coverage
- Bright visual performance
- Simple staff operation
In a public environment, the technology also needed to be dependable and low maintenance. Library staff should not need to manage separate systems manually every time the room changes use.
The Technology Approach
Masters Voice Technology designed and installed an integrated AV solution combining interactive projection, large venue laser projection, distributed audio, interactive play technology and centralised control.
Interactive projection was used to support workshops, education sessions and collaborative learning. High-brightness laser projection helped deliver large-format visual content for presentations, screenings and events.
The audio system was designed to support clear speech and media playback across the space, while interactive play projection created more engaging experiences for children, families and school groups.
The result was not just a collection of AV products. It was a coordinated system designed around the way the library is used.
Why This Matters for Libraries and Councils
For councils, libraries and community facilities, AV systems need to do more than “turn on and work.” They need to help spaces become more useful, more engaging and easier to operate.
A well-designed library AV system can help staff run programs with confidence, improve the visitor experience and allow one space to support many different community activities.
This project also shows the importance of designing technology around architecture. Equipment placement, cabling, mounting, ventilation and service access all matter when AV is being integrated into a modern public building.
The Outcome
The completed AV integration helped Oran Park Library operate as a more flexible and future-ready community space.
The system now supports presentations, film nights, workshops, children’s activities, school group engagement and public programming from one integrated AV platform.
For Masters Voice Technology, the project reflects a broader approach to public space AV: technology should be practical, reliable, easy to use and designed around real community outcomes.
