Hi @Andy Ciddor This looks like something we can capitalize on. I would ask you work with @Kristin Bidwell and @Althea M Ricketts who lead the best practices subcommittee and are best suited to make this a success.
First pass at a mission statement
I wanted to write something so we can all critique and comment on it.
The Sustainability Task Force's goal is to educate and communicate to the AVIXA community and beyond, the benefits of incorporating sustainability practices into AV projects. By gathering and documenting not just regulatory requirements, and best practices from around the world, but predicting trends, the Sustainably Task Force will show AVIXA members how embracing sustainability can not only help advance business not only from a regulatory point of view, but can also better align the organization with goals of their employees, customers, and customers organizations.
Reference material as to how we started.
THE ASTF ITSELF
AVIXA BOD has granted the ASTF with the authority to:
Meets regularly to discuss and define a plan for AVIXA to lead Sustainability for the AV industry
Establish membership comprising diverse stakeholders from all areas of AXIVA (geographically, job function, business type, etc.)
Set other interim goals and objectives as deemed relevant by the membership
Report regularly to the Membership Committee on progress and goals
The initial objectives for the Task Force as proposed and ratified by the Board of Directors are:
Create a common understanding of the importance of sustainability for our industry by review of the key regulations and governmental decisions globally
Identify gaps among stakeholders for which solutions or guidance are needed
Create a plan to educate and influence interested parties
Utilize Xchange as a collaboration tool for these efforts, increasing value of Xchange
Recommend longer term plan for sustained AVIXA involvement in Sustainability if interest continues and results are evident or anticipated
Will address Sustainability in material selection, transportation, packaging, operations, maintenance, reuse/recycling, energy consumption, disposal and offsets.
Leadership
In addition to yourselves, the following leadership volunteers were selected by myself and staff for the three main subcommittees that we envisioned to get the heavy lifting done that you will be overseeing.
Standards and Regulations Subcommittee
Jan Daem – Co-chair
Andrew Birklid – Co-chair
Best Practices Subcommittee
Althea Ricketts – Co-chair
Kristin Bidwell – Co-chair
Communications Subcommittee
Gina Sansivero – Chair
The goals of these subcommittees will likely need some additional work, but their names should be guides to the breakdown of the workload, as further described below.
The Standards and Regulations Subcommittee is responsible for monitoring global standards, regulations, and other documentation for relevance to AVIXA membership and to create a document repository containing said information and/or links to these relevant materials accessible for AVIXA membership.
The Best Practices Subcommittee will assemble success stories that use specific experiences to educate on the challenges, solutions and benefits of embarking on any of the paths leading to improved sustainability for an organization. This subcommittee will work closely with the Communications Subcommittee to formulate, style and distribute these stories.
The Communications Subcommittee will develop and execute the plan for style and substance communications of the workings of the Task Force and subcommittees to stakeholders and potentially more broadly to the community at large. The use of AVIXA Xchange and communication of Best Practices through traditional and social media are paramount to the success of this committee.
