The challenge: outdated systems limit care

Many long-term care facilities still rely on outdated nurse call systems and analogue telephony. These legacy systems are costly to maintain, restrict staff mobility and availability, and lack digital documentation and clear communication workflows. Non digital solutions make it difficult to track and prioritise alarms reliably, which can impact the quality of resident care. SmartLiberty developed a reliable, digital, and scalable solution to replace these aging systems and support modern care workflows.

The solution: a centralised and mobile alarm ecosystem

SmartLiberty implemented a fully integrated alarm management ecosystem that combines mobility for caregivers with centralised visibility across the facility.

Staff members receive alarms directly on their smartphones via SmartLiberty’s motica Care app, allowing them to respond immediately, wherever they are in the facility. At the same time, central APPC-15XP displays provide a complete, real-time overview of all the active alarms in the facility, giving care teams a centralised picture of what is happening across the entire building.

The system also supports internal messaging and communication between staff. Care teams can configure who receives each type of alarm, enabling personalised alerting and prioritisation based on roles, responsibilities, or location. This ensures that critical situations are addressed promptly while reducing unnecessary notifications for staff.

Software by SmartLiberty: motica Alarm app

At the heart of this ecosystem is SmartLiberty’s software platform. motica Alarm app is a simplified version of SmartLiberty’s motica Care app and is specifically tailored for long-term care institutions. Displayed on large screens at nursing stations and offices, the application enables staff to instantly see the status and type of each alarm, ensuring full visibility across the care unit.

motica Alarm creates a seamless, digital environment that replaces outdated infrastructure with an efficient, scalable system, improving care coordination, transparency, and responsiveness across the entire facility.

Hardware by ProDVX: reliable interactive displays

To provide a centralised overview of all active alarms, SmartLiberty selected interactive displays from ProDVX, specifically the APPC-15XP equipped with an NFC module.

These displays act as always-on monitoring stations, ensuring continuous visibility of active alarms. The NFC module allows authorised staff to cancel alarms securely, adding a controlled and safe layer to alarm management.

The APPC-15XP is a touch-enabled Android device powered via a fixed electrical outlet, ensuring reliable operation without relying on batteries. Combined with a wired network connection, the setup provides stable, redundant monitoring, keeping all active alarms visible even in the event of wireless network disruptions This guarantees uninterrupted resident care and reliable monitoring throughout long shifts.

Each display is mounted using either a wall mount (WM-25) or desk stand (DS-15), depending on the facility’s requirements.
