One Layer, Zero Hardware: How We Brought the Olympic Magic to Milan Malpensa

At Milan Malpensa Airport, we didn't just show the Games; we redefined how live streaming is integrated into a global hub. No extra hardware, no complex local configs just the "Voome Magic." We turned a high-traffic terminal into a live Olympic stage using a single digital layer.

The Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics have been an absolute rollercoaster of emotions. For those of us in the Pro-AV industry, it was the ultimate stress test for digital communication. As an Italian company, we are incredibly proud of how our country hosted the world, proving that even a "small" nation can deliver a massive, history-making event.

To our American friends at AVIXA: congratulations on an incredible performance! Taking the #2 spot in the medal table is a testament to your powerhouse status. But we have to say, seeing Italy finish with a record-breaking 10 Gold medals and a total of 30 podiums (our best Winter Games ever!) felt like making history right in our own backyard. Not bad for a country you can cross in a few hours of driving, right?

The "Voome Magic": Live Streaming without the Headache

At Milan Malpensa Airport, the main gateway for the Games, we wanted to do something that most platforms simply can't handle without a truckload of extra gear.

In the world of Digital Signage, "Live Streaming" usually means "call the IT guy," "add a capture card," or "plug in an external HDMI encoder." Not with Voome.

The real "magic" we deployed for the Olympics—and what sets us apart—is our cloud-native streaming layer. Here’s why it’s a game-changer for any Pro-AV project:

  • A Single Layer: We didn't have to redesign the entire layout or create complex scripts. We simply added a dedicated live-streaming layer to the existing project within the Voome CMS.

  • Zero Additional Hardware: No encoders, no extra players, no "boxes" hidden behind the LED walls. We injected the live Olympic feed directly into the digital ecosystem of the airport Terminal.

  • No Local Modifications: We managed everything remotely. There was no need for on-site technicians to tweak hardware or change local configurations. One click in the CMS, and the "Porte di Milano" were broadcasting the Games in real-time.

Why It Matters for the Customer Journey

In high-traffic hubs like Malpensa, reliability is everything. While traditional platforms struggle with unprotected web links that can fail or be hijacked, our ISO 27001 certified architecture ensured that the stream was secure, stable, and perfectly synchronized across the network.

We transformed a transit area into an emotional "Olympic corridor," where travelers could catch a world-record performance while walking to their gate. That is the power of a truly evolved CMS: making the complex look incredibly simple.

Being a small part of this "Italian Dream" was an honor. We’ve shown that with the right vision and a "Zero Friction" technical approach, we can turn any screen into a window to the world’s greatest stage.
