University of Greenwich's SHIFT Centre Elevates UK’s Status in Immersive Technology Training
The University of Greenwich has recently unveiled a new centre of excellence, SHIFT (Shared Hub for Immersive Future Technologies), focused on advancing education and research in audiovisual content and processes. Located in London, this facility is poised to become a significant hub for the study and development of cutting-edge audiovisual technologies, particularly in the realm of extended reality (XR).
The centre features a state-of-the-art XR setup that includes an Alfalite Modularpix Pro 1.5 ORIM VP XR LEDWALL, supplied and integrated by Mo-Sys, alongside their StarTracker Max systems and other XR solutions. This technology will serve as a key platform for creating and displaying XR content, which is central to the research and training activities planned at SHIFT.
The University of Greenwich aims to leverage this new facility to design and deliver virtual production training programs for industry professionals. Additionally, the centre will be involved in research projects and knowledge exchange initiatives aimed at identifying new products and solutions within the sector. The university also plans to provide students with opportunities for employment and internships in the highly competitive film industry.
The technological infrastructure supporting the LEDWALL includes Brompton SX40 and XD Unit LED video processors. Notably, this project is distinguished by being an entirely European VP XR solution.
