Must-See AV: Orlando
Orlando, Florida is one of the biggest tourist centers in the United States. Disney World and Universal Studios are some of the biggest theme parks in the country. The city might be a bit warm and humid, especially in summer, but it’s a great destination for the family—and for audiovisual enthusiasts. There’s always an exhibit or theme park attraction or museum to experience that offer engaging, immersive effects. Here are five AV experiences in Orlando to check out on your next vacation or if you're attending InfoComm 2025!
1. SUPER NINTENDO WORLD
I admit, I’m cheating a bit with this suggestion because it’s not a specific ride or exhibit, it’s an entire world. SUPER NINTENDO WORLD is part of the debut series of theme park worlds at Universal Epic Universe. By new I mean brand new; the park just opened on May 22, 2025! Be one of the first to check out this new, immersive Nintendo adventure.
The reason I focused on the entire world rather than one element is because the entire world seems uniquely interactive in a way not typically seen in theme park exhibits overall. With a Power Band, for example, guests can interact with set pieces and hit power blocks for coins and points. You’ll be able to light up clues or puzzles with the Power Band—and even compete with other guests for high scores! On top of that, there is a Mario Kart ride and a Donkey Kong ride that all include an immersive experience through unique combinations of augmented reality and interactive set pieces. The entire world is worth checking out! This AV attraction is a must for gaming and Nintendo fans, especially those wanting to have fun with the whole family.
2. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
I love Star Wars. I also love the Millennium Falcon. The Falcon is such a timeless sci-fi classic spaceship. Disney World’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is overall one of the most amazing experiences in Orlando. What could be better than an interactive, immersive ride on the Falcon? Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run lets you firsthand experience what any Star Wars fan always dreams about: an adventure aboard the Millennium Falcon. Play out the role of pilot, gunner, or engineer with six total people. Each role has various tasks to perform—which means buttons to press and danger to evade.
Even waiting in line is a delight, with a view of the Falcon from the outside and, leading up into the ride itself, other Easter eggs such as the holographic chess table from the Star Wars movies. The screen simulation is engaging, giving you that jump to hyperspace moment. If you use the Play Disney Parks app, you’ll even get a cut of the credits afterward. Try not to damage the Falcon too badly on your run. The ride lasts around five minutes. Good luck!
3. Museum of Illusions Orlando
For a break from epic theme park rides, head over to the Museum of Illusions Orlando for some silly optical illusion entertainment. The quirky museum is good for groups or families looking for a fun, smaller sized adventure. The museum is based around visual tricks and interactive displays, and it boasts over 50 exhibits, some educational. There’s immersive rooms, holograms, and more to explore. Personally I always love rooms that make someone look tiny in a chair while the other person in the foreground appears regular sized. It’s a simple visual trick, but it brings such joy every time. The Museum of Illusions also offers corporate events, group activities for special occasions, and school field trips! It's definitely a fun AV museum for all ages, especially those who like optical illusions and interactive visual tricks.
4. The Bourne Stuntacular
I may be biased towards The Bourne Stuntacular because I wrote about it for a previous article, but it’s an excellent stunt performance. If you’re looking for AV experiences in Orlando—especially if you’re attending InfoComm Night at Universal on June 10—the Bourne Stuntacular is a must-see. Witness Jason Bourne travel to three regions of the world made famous by the Bourne movie franchise. The props utilize cutting edge RFID technology to move along the stage without assistance.
All the action sequences on the main stage utilize a massive LED screen for the backdrop, allowing for stunt performers to appear to drive cars in chase sequences and more. There are also fun cameos such as Julia Stiles reprising her role as Nicky Parsons and the mini Cooper from the Bourne Identity car chase sequence—which popularized car chase sequences for many action films to come.
This immersive AV stunt performance is a must for fans of the Bourne franchise as well as action movie lovers overall!
5. The Lonely Dog Immersive
This immersive musical experience is an unexpected combination of AV elements! Experience Lonely Dog’s journey through music, and his attempt to exist among the Dogs and Cats, through a 360-degree projected digital showroom. The show features Ivan Clarke’s drawings of anthropomorphic beings, the Cats and the Dogs, as Lonely Dog navigates both classes. It's actually based on Ivan Clarke’s own dog! The experience also includes VR and interactive projects where you can draw and take in the music and story. It's an excellent choice for AV enthusiasts who like 360-projected room experiences and musical attractions.
Bonus: Kennedy Space Center
From sci-fi theme park attractions to actual space exhibits, the Kennedy Space Center has several interactive educational experiences. I will note that this a bit of a trek out of Orlando proper, especially from the side of the city home to its massive theme parks. That’s why the Kennedy Space Center is my bonus pick rather than a primary part of the list.
However, for space-loving AV enthusiasts interested in a more educational experience, it felt important to include. There’s so many neat exhibits and showcases, including a Mars Base simulation, flying with an astronaut, a hyperdeck VR experience, and various astronaut training experience stages!
