At InfoComm 2025, Gustavo Sánchez Müller became the first professional from Guatemala to earn AVIXA’s CTS certification — a milestone that represents not only a personal achievement but also an important step toward the professionalization of the country’s audiovisual industry.

A Passion That Started With Screens

At just 27 years old, Gustavo is an electronic engineer currently working as a Design Engineer at Bioma, the audiovisual business unit of ISERTEC in Guatemala. His journey into the AV world began shortly after graduation, when he went to Bioma for a job interview and walked into a showroom filled with screens and technology.

“I felt like a kid again,” he recalls. That first impression was enough to make him decide not only to work in the field but to specialize and grow within the industry.

From Hands-On Experience to Professional Training

In his role, Gustavo designs projects that integrate audio, professional video, lighting, unified communications, and control systems, and also takes part in their implementation. However, he knew that hands-on experience needed a solid theoretical foundation: “The best school is real-life experience, but having the technical fundamentals and industry standards makes the difference between good work and excellent work.”

That’s how he discovered AVIXA and its training programs. Drawn by the idea of an organization that defines global standards for the AV industry, he decided to begin preparing for the CTS certification. Although his studies were briefly interrupted due to work demands, he resumed them with determination in late 2024 — and successfully earned his certification in June 2025.

A Day Full of Emotion

On the day of the exam in Orlando, Florida, Gustavo felt nervous but highly motivated. Supported by his team, he knew that beyond the test itself, he was representing an entire community. When he received the news that he had passed, the first people he called were his parents, followed by his manager and his team.

“Everyone was so excited — especially because I was the first in Guatemala. There are many talented professionals in my country, and this doesn’t mean I’m the best; it just means I was the first to take the step,” he explained.

Inspiring Others in Guatemala

Gustavo hopes his achievement will encourage other Guatemalan professionals to pursue training and certification.

“Studying the standards, understanding how to design a good user experience, and having clear rules for every project — all of that helps the industry grow in an organized and professional way,” he says.

He believes that AVIXA’s CTS certification, with its global and practical focus, will be key to raising the quality of AV projects in Guatemala.

“There’s a lot of talent in this country. If more people get certified and professionalize their work, we can take this industry to the next level.”

What is AVIXA’s CTS Certification?

The CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) certification is an internationally recognized credential that validates essential knowledge and skills in the design, operation, and implementation of audiovisual systems.

Granted by AVIXA and accredited by ANSI, it is one of the most respected standards in the AV industry.
