GoBright Acquires 12CU: WiFi-Based Occupancy Intelligence Joins the Smart Workplace Platform
Closing the data gap in workplace technology
Room booking. Desk booking. Digital signage. Visitor management. These are the building blocks of the modern smart workplace — and the solutions GoBright has long delivered through its platform and European partner network. What has remained harder to solve is the broader question: how is the building actually being used?
Sensor-based occupancy measurement answers this precisely at the room and desk level. But achieving full-building visibility through sensors alone requires significant hardware investment and a substantial installation effort. For many clients — particularly those managing large corporate estates, multi-building campuses, or higher education environments — this has been a barrier.
12CU removes that barrier.
What 12CU brings to the platform
Founded in 2016 and developed over nearly a decade, 12CU's technology uses a building's existing WiFi infrastructure to detect device presence and map occupancy patterns across entire floors and buildings. No additional hardware. No physical installation. Integration is delivered via a secure API connection to the WiFi system's location engine, and most deployments are live within one week.
The platform delivers real-time visibility into space utilisation at building and floor level, AI-generated trend reports that identify usage patterns and anomalies, group-level analytics showing how different teams and departments use space, and occupancy pilots for organisations planning a move or redesign. Data is anonymised and GDPR-compliant by design.
Why this matters for AV integrators
The AV industry is increasingly expected to deliver not just technology, but measurable outcomes — smarter spaces, better utilisation, demonstrable ROI. WiFi-based occupancy intelligence is a compelling addition to that conversation.
For integrators working on conferencing and collaboration deployments, meeting room analytics have long been part of the discussion. 12CU extends that conversation to the entire building, giving clients a macro-level view that contextualises room-level data. Which floors are consistently underused? How does occupancy shift across the week? Where should the next phase of sensor deployment be prioritised?
These are questions that facilities managers, real estate teams, and workplace strategists are actively trying to answer. With WiFi occupancy data in the mix, integrators can support those conversations with evidence rather than estimates.
Sensors and WiFi: better together
The combination is straightforward but powerful. GoBright's sensor technology delivers precise, event-level data: which desk is occupied, which room is in use versus merely booked, how long spaces are held. 12CU's WiFi platform adds the macro layer: building-wide patterns, group behaviour, long-term trends.
Together, they give organisations complete visibility from the whole building down to the individual desk — without requiring sensor coverage everywhere. WiFi handles the broad picture quickly and cost-effectively; sensors go where granular accuracy genuinely matters.
"The acquisition of 12CU strengthens a key area of our occupancy measurement offering where we identified clear potential for growth. With WiFi-based occupancy insights that require no additional hardware investment, we can now provide our clients with a complete picture — enabling faster, more cost-effective decision-making around their real estate. This represents a strong and compelling proposition." — Chris Wiegeraad, CCO, GoBright
"Joining GoBright is a natural and exciting next step for 12CU. By combining our WiFi-based occupancy insights with GoBright's expertise in room booking, sensor-based occupancy measurement, and workspace analytics, we can now offer a truly complete approach to optimising workspace usage." — Eric Vermaat, Founder, 12CU
What changes operationally
In the short term, 12CU continues to operate as a dedicated entity within GoBright. The team, platform, and partner arrangements remain in place. Over time, 12CU's technology will be progressively integrated into the broader GoBright platform, expanding the analytics and reporting capabilities available to GoBright's partner network.
