For decades there has been discussion of the increasing overlap between the IT and AV professions as AV technologies became more and more likely to be connected to an IP-based network and IT integration firms took on projects involving AV technology as a result. Exact measures of this activity have been difficult to attain since industry level data does not contain indications of who carried out the project work. However, there is a way to see the intersection as it plays out within the end-user companies themselves -- namely where the staff managing AV technology are housed within the corporate structure. Across 5 quarters of surveys conducted to the purchasers of AV products and services within AVIXA's MOAR study, 58% of respondents from all industries indicate that AV is managed within the IT department. Split by vertical, corporate shows the highest prevalence of IT housing of AV at 67% and venues/ entertainment the lowest at 39%. Both make sense given a different degree of AV specialization required in each market and therefore a different organizational structure around AV.
