As you may have seen in the news recently, several female executives and high-powered leaders from the world's largest companies and world governments are calling it quits, including from YouTube, Meta, Scotland, and New Zealand. What is behind this concerning trend that is widening the gender gap? According to this CNBC article, women in leadership roles still face increased microaggressions about their qualifications and are expected to carry more responsibility in diversity and inclusion efforts, and on top of demands for flexibility, personal wellbeing and limited opportunities for continued advancement, this combination is causing extreme burnout. Not only are these exits a loss for the respective companies/governments, but also a disadvantage for younger women in these organizations who are losing key role models and mentors.
