"Digital signage is very dynamic, with new trends emerging each day," says Matthias Woggon, CEO & Co-founder of eyefactive GmbH, a pioneer in interactive signage touchscreen solutions.

In his article Digital Signage: The Top Five Trends You Need To Know About In 2022, he details the current and future viability of signage technology and how organizations can take advantage of them to build their market presence.

Interactivity

Digital signage has been using interactive technologies for several years and these applications are continuing to be refined and enhanced. The pandemic was a game-changer for industries like restaurants. Rather than dine-in, many customers chose to pick up their meals outside. This led to advancements in digital menu boards, especially in drive-thrus.

"I believe interactive technologies will help accelerate the digitization process," states Woggon. "In other words, you'll probably witness new interactive signage technologies over various retail businesses [like] frictionless ordering via interactive signage solutions in stores, restaurants or hotels."

Retailers will experience lower costs as more interactive self-order terminals will necessitate fewer staff, he explains. Additionally, consumers can also enjoy improved experiences as a result of less time wasted because they'll order without waiting in line.

Customer Experience And Smart Retail

The importance of customer experience to retailers has grown exponentially. In a survey by Accenture, 77% of CEOs stated that they plan to change how their companies interact with customers.

"This is a much-needed change because 54% of consumers state that they aren't satisfied with the customer experience of most companies," Woggon says. How can you ensure that the customer experience drives people to purchase your product? "Simply put, you should prioritize presenting innovative retail experiences."

Utilize interactive technologies like touchscreens, tables, or videowalls. Other smart retail solutions include self-order terminals with payment options and gesture-based installations that rely on touchless gestures.

Metaverse

One of the newest trends in digital technology is the metaverse, popularized by Meta, a social media brand that invested early in virtual reality headset maker Oculus.

"I can already tell that the metaverse will impact digital signage," observes Woggon. "That's because the metaverse will be a big part of the future digital economy, and digital signage content used to promote services and products will indeed play into that."

Woggon advises leaders to remain open to the idea of teleporting their business to a metaverse when the time comes. "If the metaverse becomes popular, you'll want to leverage such access to a wide audience."

The world of digital signage is constantly changing. The Covid-19 pandemic took its toll on the industry but it also helped some areas thrive, and the key to thriving is adapting to changes. For more digital signage future trends, read the original piece here.
