This milestone achievement is a testament to the resilience and innovation of our community in response to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. When we take into account that there were only 16,500 videos produced from the start of NTNUs video production in 2005 until 2020, this achievement becomes even more significant.

Covid was the trigger for change, but Panopto was the solution. With the sudden shift to remote learning, our faculty, staff, and students turned to Panopto as our go-to platform for video content creation and sharing. We quickly realized that Panopto was the perfect solution for delivering high-quality lectures, presentations, and training materials to our students and colleagues around the world.

Our video content comes from a variety of sources, including  Zoom Cloud recordings, personal captures on PC/MAC, mobile recordings, and over 150 remote recorders, such as the Matrox Maevex 6020 and the Epiphan Pearl mini installed in auditoriums and lecture halls.  The integration with Zoom Cloud enables easy recording from the Zoom app and high-quality recordings from our Zoom Room auditoriums and Webinar booths based on Zoom Room. Panopto content also comes from student assignments, field recordings, studios, and other creative and innovative ways that our community has found to utilize the platform.

With the seamless integration of Panopto with our LMS BlackBoard, and time scheduling system Teachers can now book automated recordings inside the LMS, and the recordings are then automatically made available to the students. These integrations has made it easy for our teachers to create and share video content with our students, improving access and engagement.

Panopto has been tightly integrated into our AV system, and teachers in auditoriums and classrooms can see a 13" Samsung  confidence monitor on the lectern, that shows the camera and content feeds being recorded. There is also a  separate Kuando red light that indicates when recording starts in the room. The remote recorders from Matrox and Epiphan are integrated with Crestron for ad hoc recording and control. The remote recorders are also integrated into the AV over IP video distribution from ZeeVee Crestron or AMX. For PTZ cameras we use Sony, AVer, Panasonic and Canon, and teachers can control the camera with presets on the Crestron Panel. Some rooms with large chalkboards are also outfitted with Seervision camera tracking. Great audio is picked up by Sennheiser Speechline wireless microphones and integrated with the recorders via a Biamp Tesira DSP.

To meet the increasing demand for higher quality video, NTNU has also constructed Studio Akrinn. This advanced multicamera studio is built around the Blackmagic Design ATEM Constellation 8K mixer and Blackmagic URSA Broadcast cameras, allowing for the production of high-quality video lectures, webinars, info videos, and hybrid events. The studio is equipped with two ZoomRoom computers, facilitating seamless collaboration between local and remote participants. The produced content can be streamed to popular platforms like Panopto, YouTube, or Zoom Webinars. Studio Akrinn employs 12G SDI video infrastructure, capable of delivering 4K resolution video. To encode and deliver content to Panopto and YouTube, the studio uses Epiphan Pearl2 as an endpoint and encoder. The studio also is capable of receiving, and sending multiple NDI and NDIhx streams via Kiloview Encoders and Decoders, that are connected to the video mixer.  Professional grade graphics is achieved by Singular.live cloud based platform, running on a CasparCG PC with BlackMagic UltraStudio 4K.

Panopto video is also used in H5P to create interactive content. Our faculty and staff have found that combining Panopto with H5P has enabled them to create interactive video quizzes and other engaging learning experiences for our students. https://h5p.com

NTNU use Panopto to embedd video on our internal webpages, as well as for streaming and events such as board meetings and conferences. With Panopto's versatile and reliable platform, we've been able to deliver high-quality lectures, presentations, and training materials to our students and colleagues around the world.

We're grateful to everyone who has contributed to this incredible achievement and for the continued support of our community.

Great to see how NTNU has leveraged the power of Panopto as their platform for video content and online learning, they have chosen a fantastic group of partners.

Crestron Technical Institue has been using Panopto for several years as our platform for online learning content, it was a great move for us.

Hi @Rich Sasson , that sounds like a perfect Panopto use case. We are currently working on a Crestron AdHoc recording module for Panopto, that lets our users start/stop Panopto recordings via a MIFARE access card :)  In this integration Users can choose Panopto destination folders for Recording and streaming, and very easy do multiple recordings per session.  We plan on rollout in Active Learning spaces and Selfservice studios later this semester.
