Normally in pro AV, manufacturing is thought of more in terms of the production of the goods that integrators and installers would then use in their own project work. However, factories and their associated offices may also represent an opportunity for these same solution providers. Recent data from our quarterly demand study (MOAR) has shown the manufacturing sector as one of the top markets in terms of planned capital improvement plans, with budgets also earmarked for AV. This had us keeping an additional eye out for outside data to help validate the findings from the AVIXA study. Sure enough, articles like this one on Yahoo Finance (Manuf Construction Hits Record Levels) report a 161% growth in U.S. manufacturing construction over the past year in the month of May. While the scope of these projects goes way beyond AV, one could envision some amount of investment going into control rooms, security/surveillance, collaboration, and perhaps even digital signage -- all solutions pro AV integrators might be contracted to provide. Though not a traditional space for the channel, this may mean additional opportunity for those with the right capabilities and connections. Chime in if this resonates with you (or if you disagree)!
