My name is Michael Broadbent and I have around 30 years’ experience within the Australian and New Zealand commercial Audio Visual market.

Today, I am the Chairperson for Midwich in the APAC Region - Midwich Group is a leading global specialist AV distributor to the trade market. The Group’s long-standing relationships with over 600 vendors, including blue-chip organisations, support a comprehensive product portfolio across major audio visual (“AV”) categories such as large format displays, projectors, digital signage, unified communications and professional audio. With operations in the UK and Ireland, EMEA, Asia Pacific and North America, the Group operates as the sole or largest in-country distributor for a number of its vendors. 

Like Nick, I was recently asked to share my story here.
I started my working life as an apprentice Electrician for Westinghouse building large power transformers. After completing my apprenticeship, I took that fundamental electrical knowledge, coupled with my passion for technology and gained my first ‘AV’ role with Sony Australia …… and I have never looked back. 
The AV industry gave me the opportunity to take my career in many directions – from technical installations, to sales and product management to Marketing Manager and onto general management.
The journey included a decade as a part owner of my own Australian systems integration business. 
Once the business was sold, I was consulting to small business, government departments such as NSW Health and Midwich when they traded as IDT. 

Apart from my career development, the AV industry also provided me with opportunity to travel the world and be at the forefront of leading technology.

In June 2014, I was given the honour and great fortune to lead the Midwich Australian & New Zealand business as Managing Director. From the middle of 2022 I took on the role of Chairman for the APAC region.
