Whether it's autocorrection on phones or algorithms in social feeds, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is doing a lot of the heavy lifting for us. It can already be seen impacting many facets of our lives – including industries like Information Technology (IT).

Using AI, computers can accomplish tasks by examining data and recognizing patterns. AI can be divided into distinct technology segments, but a central role in the IT industry belongs to machine learning and one of its subsets, deep learning. Companies are increasingly looking at how AI will add value to their operations and provide a competitive edge for them as they work to keep pace with accelerating innovations.

AI-driven applications are mainly used in quality assurance, service management, and process automation. AIOps, known as AI for IT Operations, offer a productive way to manage IT operations. And while AI already has a hand in IT, there are many changes expected in the future.

AIOps: AI for IT Operations

Combining the phrases “artificial intelligence” and “IT operations,” research firm Gartner is said to have been the first to craft the term “AiOps” in 2016. AIOps uses big data, analytics, and machine learning capabilities to automate data processing and decision making. Through the process of analyzing real-time and historical data, AIOps enable insight into past and present states of IT systems.

AIOps is mainly used in large, complex enterprises, typically ones that take advantage of DevOps or cloud computing. But according to Gartner, use of AIOps and digital experience tools to monitor applications and infrastructure will rise in 2023. You have to ensure that you choose an AIOps platform that is able to meet your aspirations. The main features a platform should have include:

  • Accumulated data management
  • Stream data management
  • Log reception
  • Reception of data packets
  • Reception of digital indicators
  • Reception of documents
  • Automated pattern discovery and prediction
  • Anomaly detection
  • Identification of the true source of problems

Additionally, as IT and AV industries further develop their usage of AI, there is going to be lots of changes that unfold through the years. Marketing Analyst Kevin Vu formulated several impacts that AI could have on these industries. Here are four affecting IT:

1.     AI in Speech and Natural Language Processing

Sentiment analysis driven by Natural Language Processing (NLP) has already proved to be a useful tool in IT. NLP is when AI can begin to not only understand human speech but also create it, offering the possibility of computers fluidly reading text or interpreting verbal statements. NLP relies on these two notions: Natural Language Understanding and Natural Language Generation.

2.     AI in Decision Making

Another great way for AI to make decisions and change the IT industry is to participate in defect analysis and efficiency analysis. Some AI may be able to assess protocols or infrastructure to figure out where defects are located and then determine best solutions to boost efficiency. AI being able to create and offer solutions is transforming the industry.

3.    AI for Process Automation

The usefulness of AI in automation is boundless. That’s why one of the largest benefits brought about by AI is the ability to discover and fix bugs in systems. This keeps software and programs running smoothly.

4.    AI for Self-Solving Management

AI can even be used in the IT industry to self-solve and manage itself. While this may sound like something out of a sci-fi movie, the ability for AI to diagnose, assess, create a solution, and implement that solution can drastically streamline the IT process – both for customers and companies. AI-operated service desks are one way that this is already seen today. There is also the added benefit of AI being able to auto-schedule maintenance visits or requests.

Conclusion

The rise of innovative technologies such as AI has led to more intelligent and efficient business. The concept of AIOps offers a productive way of managing IT operations. Quality assurance, service management, and process automation are the primary areas that AI has demonstrated to be most helpful so far for IT. And AI is expected to continue changing how we run many aspects in the future.
